5 Tips on Looking Your Best in a Bow Tie

If you are going to put in the effort to dress up and tie on a bow here are a few tips to look your best.

5. The bow tie attracts a lot of attention to the face so be sure you are well groomed. That includes trimming your beard, or shaving. Neck stubble can also damage woven bow ties so it is important to be mindful of the material and your 5 o'clock shadow.

4. Be sure you know how to properly tie the bow tie and that it is tight around your neck. The bow tie doesn't have to be perfectly symmetrical, as part of the charm of the bow is that it is imperfect.

3. Be sure the rest of your outfit is properly maintained. This means making sure your shirt is pressed, your pants are ironed, and that buttons are buttoned and zippers are zipped.

2. Make certain that your tie matches the outfit. It is important that colors and patterns don’t clash. If you are unsure just keep it simple and wear neutral colors and stay away from patterns. If you wear a pocket square be sure the colors complement the bow tie or wear a plain white square folded correctly.

1. Wear a bow tie that fits your face. It should not be too small or too large. If the bow tie is too big you will look clownish and if the bow is too small your head will look enormous.

The most important thing is to be confident and have fun. Bows are for happy occasions and for  showing your independence. Be bold, enjoy yourself, and be dapper.
